Ferber, Edna (1887–1968)

US novelist and dramatist. Her novel Show Boat 1926 was adapted as an operetta 1927 by Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein II, and her plays, in which she collaborated with George S Kaufmann, include The Royal Family 1927, about the Barrymore theatrical family, Dinner at Eight 1932, and Stage Door 1936.

Her novels include The Girls 1921, So Big 1924 (Pulitzer Prize), Cimarron 1930, Giant 1952 (filmed 1956), about Texas, and Ice Palace 1959, about Alaska.
