Ferencsik, János (1907–1984)

Hungarian conductor. He studied in Budapest and in 1953 became musical director of the Opera and chief conductor of the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra; in 1963 and 1973 he took the Opera Company to Edinburgh for performances of Bartók's Duke Bluebeard's Castle. He made his US debut in 1962, and also conducted in Vienna, London, and Salzburg.
