Fergus Falls

Town and administrative headquarters of Otter Tail County, west-central Minnesota; population (2000) 13,500. It is situated on the Otter Tail River, 80 km/50 mi southeast of Moorhead and 40 km/25 mi east of the North Dakota border. Mainly a trading centre for its agricultural region, it contains flour mills and a cooperative creamery. Industries include food processing, meatpacking, and farm machinery and garment manufacturing, as well as the production of electric power. It is also a lake resort.

The Church of the Lutheran Brethren maintains its headquarters here, along with a religious academy and seminary. The city is also the site of Fergus Falls Community College (1960).
