Fernandez de Quirós, Pedro (1565-1614)

Spanish navigator, one of the first Europeans to search for the great southern continent that Ferdinand Magellan believed lay to the south of the Magellan Strait. Despite a series of disastrous expeditions, he took part in the discovery of the Marquesas Islands and the main island of Espíritu Santo in the New Hebrides.
