Fersen, Hans Axel, Count (1755-1810)

Swedish marshal. He served in the American War of Independence. During the French Revolution, he made the preparations and accompanied Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette on their flight to Varennes July 1791.

Fersen was a colonel in the Royal Swedish regiment of Louis XVI of France. After the Revolution he returned to Sweden, where he was killed by the mob in Stockholm town hall, following a false rumour that he had poisoned Crown Prince Christian Augustus.
