Field, Sally

Field, Sally (1946– )

US film and television actor, director, and producer. She began her career in mostly comedic roles, but went to give many critically acclaimed dramatic performances. She won Academy Awards for her performances in Norma Rae (1979) and Places in the Heart (1984). She made her directorial debut in 2000 with Beautiful.

Her other films include Smokey and the Bandit (1977), Hooper (1978), Absence of Malice (1981), Murphy's Romance (1985), Steel Magnolias (1989), Mrs Doubtfire (1993), Forrest Gump (1994), Eye for an Eye (1996), and Where the Heart Is (2000).

Prior to her movie career, she first became known for her starring roles in the TV series Gidget (1965–66) and The Flying Nun (1967–70). She won Emmy awards for her television performances in Sybil (1977), ER (2001), and Brothers and Sisters (2007).
