Figo, Luis Filipe Madeira Caeiro (1972– )| Portuguese footballer, a skilful player who is comfortable playing down either the left- or right-wing. He became the world's most expensive footballer in July 2000 when Real Madrid paid Barcelona US$56.1 million for him. In his first season with the club he helped them win the Spanish League. One of the biggest stars of the 2000 European Championships, in which he led his country to the semi-finals, he won the European Footballer of the Year Award in 2000 and was FIFA's World Player of the Year in 2001. In February 2004, he became only the second player to reach 100 caps for Portugal. He helped Portugal reach the final of the 2004 European Championships, but they lost in the final to Greece. |

| Figo started his career with Sporting Lisbon, breaking into the first team aged just 17. He moved to Barcelona in 1995 where he won two League Championships, one Cup Winners' Cup, one European Super Cup, one Spanish Super Cup, and two Copas de Rey. In August 2005, he transferred to Inter Milan in Italy. He also won the World Youth Cup with Portugal in 1991. |
