Lippi, Filippino (c. 1457–1504)Florentine painter. He was trained by his father Filippo Lippi and Botticelli. His most important works are frescoes in the Strozzi Chapel of Sta Maria Novella in Florence, painted in a graceful but also dramatic and at times bizarre style. He painted many altarpieces and frescoes, most of which show the grace and delicacy he derived from Botticelli, especially in the depiction of figures and the treatment of light, fluttering draperies. His earlier works include the Vision of St Bernard, an altarpiece in the chapel of the Badia, Florence; the Madonna and Child with Sts Victor, John the Baptist, Bernard, and Zenobius, (1485, Uffizi, Florence); and the Virgin and Child with Sts Jerome and Dominic, (1485, National Gallery, London).
