Fille du régiment, La

Opera by Gaetano Donizetti (libretto by J H V de Saint-Georges and J F A Bayard), first produced at the Opéra-Comique, Paris, France, on 11 February 1840. It was Donizetti's first French opera. It tells the story of Marie, who was found as an infant and has been brought up by the regiment. Tonio becomes a soldier in order to marry her. After complications by Marie's newly discovered relatives, all ends happily.
