filovirus

Virus causing the haemorrhagic fevers Ebola virus disease and Marburg disease. Filoviruses have a filamentous structure and are about 1,500 nanometres in length. They reduce the number of platelets in the blood and so interfere with clotting. The incubation period is less than a week.
