Findlay

Town and administrative headquarters of Hancock County, northwest Ohio; population (2000) 39,000. It is situated 72 km/45 mi south of Toledo, on the Blanchard River. Petroleum products, rubber tires, and tiles are among items manufactured here, and Findlay is a trade centre for the surrounding agricultural region.

The town developed around Fort Findlay, which was established during the War of 1812. Findlay was a stop on the Underground Railroad, a network for escaped slaves. After the discovery of local deposits of oil and natural gas, Findlay underwent an industrial boom (1886–1910).
