Fiordland National Park

Largest national park of New Zealand, in southwestern South Island; area 12,523 sq km/4,835 sq mi. It contains rugged mountain ranges, walking tracks, alpine southern beech rainforests, waterfalls, glacially formed lakes (including Te Anau and Manapouri), and fiords (including Milford and Doubtful Sounds). Many areas are undeveloped.

The park is home to the last surviving examples of some of New Zealand's wildlife, including the rediscovered takahe (flightless bird) and the kakapo parrot. The park was first established in 1905 as the Sounds National Park.
