Fischer, Adam (1949-1995)| Hungarian conductor, brother of Ivan Fischer. He studied with Hans Swarowsky in Vienna and Franco Ferrara in Italy and won the 1973 Cantelli Competition, in Milan. He conducted the Finnish National Opera 1974-77, the Kassel Opera 1987-92, and the Vienna Staatsoper from 1980, with The Bartered Bride, Manon, Maria Stuarda, and Gioconda. His US debut was in 1984, with the Boston and Chicago Symphony Orchestras, and he was a guest conductor with the Cincinnati, Denver, and Detroit Orchestras. He made his debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, in 1988 (with Die Fledermaus/The Bat), and with the English National Opera Ensemble in 1991 (with Bartók's Duke Bluebeard's Castle). He has conducted the Austro-Hungarian Haydn Orchestra at the Haydn Festival, Eisenstadt, and in the complete symphonies of Haydn on CD. |
