Fischer, Carl (1849–1923)

German-born US music publisher. His music store in New York City sold instruments and other firms' scores. He spotted a market for reproducing music and the Carl Fischer firm went on to become a major publisher of a wide spectrum of music.

Born in Buttstadt, Germany, he trained as a musician. His firm published band, choral, and instructional music, as well as music by classical and contemporary composers. It also published The Metronome (1885) for bandleaders and the Musical Observer (later Musical Courier).
