Fischer, Johann (1646-c. 1716)

German violinist and composer. He studied with Bockshorn at Stuttgart, and went to Paris where he became copyist to Lully. He later travelled, and worked for a time at Augsburg and Schwerin, in Denmark and Sweden, and finally became Kapellmeister to the Margrave of Schwedt.

Works

Feld und Helden Musik describing the battle of Hochstadt, table music, overtures, dances and other pieces for violin and for viola, some with scordatura (unusual tuning of the strings).
