Fischer-Dieskau, (Albert) Dietrich (1925– )German baritone singer. His intelligently focused and subtly understated interpretations of opera and lieder introduced a new depth and intimacy to a wide-ranging repertoire extending in opera from Christoph Willibald von Gluck to Alban Berg, Hans Werner Henze, and Benjamin Britten, and from Bach arias to lieder of Franz Schubert, Hugo Wolf, and Arnold Schoenberg.
