Fišer, Luboš (1935-1999)

Czech composer. He studied in Prague, where his two operas, Lancelot and The Good Soldier Schweik, were produced in 1961 and 1962. He emigrated to the USA in 1971 and became composer-in-residence with the US Wind Symphony Orchestra at Pittsburgh. His music often returns to myth and religion for inspiration.

Chamber string quartet (1955), cello sonata (1975), piano trio (1978), and five piano sonatas (1955-78).

Vocal Requiem (1968); Lament over the Destruction of the City of Ur, for soloists, narrators, chorus, and bells (1969).
