keyhole limpet

Primitive mollusc with a conical shell resembling that of the common limpet.

The shell is either cleft, as in Fissurella, or has a hole at the tip of the shell, as in Diodora (the rough keyhole limpet). A siphon is developed from the mantle and projects through this opening as the exhalant exit. Water is drawn over the gills from the forward end.

Classification

Keyhole limpets are of the superfamily Fissurellacea in subclass Prosobranchia, class Gastropoda, phylum Mollusca.
