Fitzroy Crossing

Town in northern Western Australia, 2,566 km/1,594 mi north of Perth; population (1996) 1,100. Industries include beef cattle, transport, and recreational fishing.

The region was first explored by settlers in 1879 and a pastoral industry was established in the 1880s. The town emerged as a service centre for the pastoral industry and as a crossing point on the Fitzroy River.
