Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms

Chaotic period in Chinese history 907-960 between the Han and Song dynasties, during which regionally based military dictatorships contested for power. The five dynasties, none of which lasted longer than 16 years, were based mainly in northern China and the ten kingdoms in the south.
