Five Points

Name of two inner-city districts in US cities – one current district of Atlanta, Georgia, and an historic area of New York. In Atlanta, Five Points forms the hub of the city centre, from which its four quadrants radiate. For a long time, it was the heart of the city's commercial life. Five Points in New York City was a former slum district on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, notorious in the 19th century for its chronic overcrowding and high crime rate. Populated largely by poor Irish and German immigrants, it was one of the first areas to be targeted by urban reformers, in around 1900.
