Five Tudor Portraits

Choral suite by Ralph Vaughan Williams on poems by John Skelton. It comprises 1. Ballad, The Tunning of Elinor Rumming; 2. Intermezzo, My Pretty Bess; 3. Burlesca, Epitaph on John Jayberd of Diss; 4. Romanza, Jane Scroop: Her Lament for Philip Sparrow; and 5. Scherzo, Jolly Rutterkin. It was written for mezzo-soprano, baritone, chorus, and orchestra, and was first performed at the Norwich Festival, England, on 25 September 1936.
