Flamininus, Titus Quinctius

Flamininus, Titus Quinctius (c. 228–c. 173 BC)

Roman general and politician, consul 198 BC. He ended the Second Macedonian War between Rome and Philip V of Macdon when he defeated Philip at Cynoscephalae, in Thessaly, in 197 BC.

Flamininus declared the independence of the Greek states and in 194 BC removed the Roman army from Greece. In 183 BC he went as ambassador to King Prusias of Bithynia, in Asia Minor, to demand the surrender of the Carthaginian military leader Hannibal.
