Flecha, Mateo (1481–c. 1553)

Spanish monk and composer. He was a pupil of Juan Castelló in Barcelona, and became maestro de capilla to the Infantas of Castile, the daughters of Charles V. He later became a Carmelite and settled in the monastery of Poblet.

Flecha, Mateo (1530–1604)

Spanish monk and composer. He was taught by his uncle Mateo Flecha.Works by the two Flechas (not always distinguishable) include church music, madrigals, ensaladas (burlesque madrigals), and other pieces. A stage work of his, El Parnaso, is believed to have been performed in Madrid in 1561.

He was in the service of the emperor Charles V until 1558 and of Philip II. He then went to Prague in the service of the emperor Maximilian, and after the emperor's death in 1576 he remained there until 1599. After this he joined the abbey of Solsona as a Franciscan monk.
