Fleetwood, Charles (1618-1692)

English Parliamentary general. Fleetwood climbed the ranks of the Parliamentary army to become a major-general and one of Oliver Cromwell's ‘lords’. In 1659 he assisted in the overthrow of Richard Cromwell, and was made lieutenant-general and commander-in-chief by the revived Rump Parliament. His powers were later withdrawn.

Fleetwood was married three times, and his second wife, Bridget, was Oliver Cromwell's daughter.
