Fleming, Richard Howell (1909-1989)

Canadian-born US oceanographer. He did teaching and research and then became a professor at the University of Washington. He made major contributions to the physics and chemistry of oceans, and to naval applications of oceanography.

He was born in Victoria, Canada and went to the USA to teach and perform research at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. He served the Hydrographic Office of the Navy before becoming a professor.
