Flensburg

Historic port and commercial city on the east coast of Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, 2 km/1 mi from the Danish border, with shipyards and breweries; population (2005 est) 86,100. Rum and smoked eels are specialities.

The city has a modern university, and since the early 1960s has hosted the Heinrich Schütz and North German Music in the 17th Century Festival (September).
