Fletcher, Andrew of Saltoun (1655–1716)
| Scottish patriot, the most outspoken critic of the Union of Scotland with England of 1707. He advocated an independent Scotland, and a republic or limited monarchy, and proposed ‘limitations’ to the treaty, such as annual Parliaments. After the Treaty of Union he retired to private life. |
