Florentinische Tragödie, Eine

Opera in one act by Alexander von Zemlinsky (text from the blank-verse drama A Florentine Tragedy by Wilde, in German translation by M Meyerfeld); it was composed 1915-16 and first produced in Stuttgart, Germany, on 30 January 1917, conducted by Max von Schillings. It was performed in a Hamburg Opera production in 1983 in Edinburgh, Scotland, and in 1985 at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London. It recounts how the jealous husband Simone kills Guido in a duel and is reunited with his wife Bianca over the corpse.
