Flórina

Town and department of Macedonia, northern Greece; area (department) 3,626 sq km/1,400 sq mi; population town (2001 est) 14,300, department (2000 est) 51,800. Florina is bounded to the north by the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. The town of Florina lies 13 km/8 mi south of the border. The Préspa Lakes, 40 km/25 mi west of the town, are a sanctuary for wildlife, and part of the area became a national park in 1971.
