Flow Country

Wilderness and wildlife habitat in the northernmost parts of the Highland unitary authority, northern Scotland. Under threat from commercial afforestation, it consists of a treeless peat bog and various lochs, which are home to many rare plants and wading birds.

Vast tracts were sold off at low prices in the 1980s to encourage commercial forestation. However, the land has proven unsuitable for growing trees.
