Lachrimae

John Dowland's collection of 21 dances for five bowed instruments with lute (London, 1604). Its opening pavana, Lachrimae antiquae, is a version of his song Flow My Teares (first published in 1600), though in its original form it was probably a pavan for solo lute. In the early 17th century the piece appeared in many other arrangements for different ensembles and by different hands, usually with the title Lachrimae.
