Floyd, Carlisle

Floyd, Carlisle (1926– )

US composer. His first opera, Susannah, was produced at the University of Houston in 1955 and at New York City Opera in 1956; it has since become one of the most widely produced of all US operas.

He studied at Syracuse University and privately with Rudolf Firkušny.
