Fokker

German military aircraft, extensively deployed in both world wars. The Fokker DR 1 triplane was famously used by Baron von Richthofen's Flying Circus during World War I; it was a highly manoeuvrable machine which caused great damage among Allied aircraft. The D VII, a powerful biplane which appeared early 1918, is generally considered to be one of the great combat aircraft of all time.

The Fokker company, founded by Dutchman Anthony Fokker, switched to making regional aircraft 1950. The Daimler-Benz company acquired a controlling interest 1993, but in 1996 the loss-making company went bankrupt after the Dutch government withdrew guarantees.
