Foldes, Andor (1913–1992)

Hungarian-born US pianist and conductor. He studied at the Budapest Music Academy with Dohnányi, winning the International Liszt Prize in 1933. He toured Europe until 1939, when he went to the USA, becoming a US citizen in 1948. He was well known as a performer of Bartók's music and for his playing of the classical repertory. He conducted from 1960.
