Folquet de Marseille (died 1231)

Provençal troubadour. His output consists mainly of love songs, sober in tone and moralizing in content. The son of a wealthy merchant, he became a Cistercian monk and, in 1205, bishop of Toulouse, in which capacity he was a notorious persecutor of the Albigensian heretics (see Albigenses).
