Fonda, Jane (Seymour) (1937– )US actor. She appeared in a number of comic roles in the 1960s, and went on to have success with more substantial roles in socially conscious films in the late 1960s and 1970s. She won Academy Awards for her performances in Klute (1971) and Coming Home (1978). Other films include Barbarella (1968) and They Shoot Horses, Don't They? (1969). A member of the Fonda acting dynasty, she became a star in her own right in the 1960s. Her varied film roles include Cat Ballou (1965), The Chase (1966), Barefoot in the Park (1967), Julia (1977), The China Syndrome (1979), 9 to 5 (1980), On Golden Pond (1981), The Morning After (1986), and Old Gringo (1989).
