Foote, Horton

Foote, (Albert) Horton (Jr) (1916– )

US screenwriter. Originally a television scriptwriter, he later won Academy Awards for the scripts of To Kill a Mockingbird (1962) and Tender Mercies (1983).

He was born in Wharton, Texas. Well-respected in Hollywood, he also wrote the novel and play that formed the basis for Lillian Hellman's screenplay for the movie, The Chase (1965).
