Forbes, Elizabeth (1924– )

British critic and writer on music. She is well known as a journalist and has contributed to Opera, the Financial Times (1970–80) and the Musical Times. Her publications include Mario and Grisi (1985), and many entries on singers for the New Grove and Opera Grove dictionaries (1980 and 1992). Her translations include operas by Spontini, Meyerbeer, and Berwald for Nottingham University, and Max Brand's Maschinist Hopkins for the BBC in 1986.
