Ford, Bruce (1956- )

US tenor. He studied at Houston and made his debut there in 1981, in the premiere of Floyd's Willie Stark. He sang with the Wuppertal Opera 1983-85, as Belmonte, Dardanus in T Gatti's Scylla, and Ramiro, and at Mannheim 1985-87 as Fenton, Ferrando, and Tamino. He was much admired in such Rossini roles as Argirio (from Tancredi, which he performed at Wexford in 1986), Rinaldo (from Armida), and Agorante (from Ricciardo e Zoraide, which he performed at Pesaro in 1990). He made his debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, in 1991 as Almaviva; he also sang Mitridate there in a new production of Mozart's opera in the same year.
