Forked Deer

    0.01 sec.

Forked Deer

River flowing through western Tennessee, USA; length 16 km/10 mi. It is formed southwest of Dyersburg, where its North and South forks converge, and joins the Obion River at Moss Island before entering the Mississippi River.

All forks of the river have been channelized in places, and near its mouth on the Mississippi the Forked Deer has abandoned its old bed, leaving bends and oxbow lakes in the Chickasaw National Wildlife Refuge.

The South Fork rises in McNairy County and flows 160 km/100 mi northwest past Jackson, where it joins a short north fork flowing west from Henderson County. The main North Fork (80 km/50 mi long), rises near Milan, Gibson County, and flows west past Trenton and Dyersburg. The Middle Fork (100 km/60 mi long) rises in southern Carroll County, and flows generally west and northwest, passing south of Humboldt, to join the North Fork east of Dyersburg.
