Formé, Nicolas

    0.01 sec.

Formé, Nicolas (1567-1638)

French composer. He was a clerk and singer in the Sainte-Chapelle in Paris 1587-92, then became a countertenor in the royal chapel and succeeded Eustache du Caurroy as choirmaster and composer there in 1609. Although almost dismissed from the Sainte-Chapelle for not conforming to the ecclesiastical rules, he returned there in 1626 and, as a favourite musician of Louis XIII, enjoyed special privileges. Only his church music survives.

Works

Masses, motets, Magnificat, and other church music.
