Formby, George (1904–1961)

English comedian. He established a stage and screen reputation as an apparently simple Lancashire working lad, and sang such songs as ‘Mr Wu’ and ‘Cleaning Windows’, accompanying himself on the ukulele. His father was a music-hall star of the same name.

Even the stars of British 'panto,' such as George Formby, who wrote and sang 'Chinese Laundry Blues,' joined in.
Researchers have tried to track participation in government (public) social service programs (see Coe, 1983; Bishop, Formby, and Zeager, 1992; Blank and Ruggles, 1996; Kim and Mergoupis, 1997; Gleason, Schochet, and Moffitt, 1998), but fewer individuals have examined participation in nongovernmental (private nonprofit) social service programs.
Beach and Davidson (1983), Bishop, Chakraborti, and Thistle (1989), and Bishop, Formby, and Smith (1991) developed statistical inference techniques to study income and earnings inequality by examining Lorenz curve dominance among different distributions.
