Formentera

Smallest inhabited island in the Spanish Balearic Islands, lying south of Ibiza; area 93 sq km/36 sq mi; population (2001) 5,600. The chief town is San Francisco Javier and the main port is La Sabina. The main industry is tourism.

The Balearic Islands located off the east coast of Spain, became an autonomous province in 1983 whose main islands are Mallorca, Ibiza, Menorca and Formentera.
