Interior showing the nave and altar of the basilica of Sant'Angelo in Formia, Italy. This Romanesque basilica was built in AD 925 on the ruins of an ancient temple. The frescos in the apse and nave date to AD 1072–78, and show the influence of Byzantine mosaics and miniatures on mural painting.

This is one of the scenes from the life of Jesus depicted above the arches in the central nave. ‘The Last Judgement’ is depicted on the back wall. The frescos were painted in AD 1072–78.

Port and tourist resort in Lazio region, west-central Italy, on the Gulf of Gaeta, 66 km/41mi southeast of Latina; population (2001) 34,900. It stands on the Appian Way, and there are remains of Roman villas, including that of the orator and politician Cicero, who was murdered nearby. The town was largely rebuilt after being damaged in World War II.
