Forrest City

Town and administrative headquarters of St Francis County, east-central Arkansas; population (1990) 13,400. It is located 129 km/80 mi east-northeast of Little Rock, on the west slope of Crowley's Ridge, between the L'Anguille and St Francis rivers, in a hardwood forest and diversified farming region. The town serves as a commercial centre for corn, cotton, peach, rice, and sweet potato producers. It also manufactures farm machinery and electrical equipment. It is home to East Arkansas Community College (1973).

Forrest City was originally a railroad camp; former Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest contracted with the Memphis and Little Rock Railroad in 1866 to build a line nearby over the ridge.
