Fort Belknap Indian Reservation

American Indian reservation in north-central Montana; area 2,510 sq km/969 sq mi; population (1990) 2,500, of which 93% is American Indian. The Milk River is its north boundary; the Bears Paw battlefield is to the west. Established in 1887, north of the Little Rocky Mountains, it is home to Gros Ventre and Assiniboine-Sioux groups. The town Harlem, to the north in Blaine County, is its administrative headquarters; population (1990) 900.
