Fort Bend County

County in southeast Texas; area 2,269 sq km/876 sq mi; population (1990) 225,400. The Brazos River flows through the county. Its administrative headquarters is Richmond. Lying to the southwest (and containing part) of Houston, the county produces oil, natural gas, sulphur, goats, sheep, cattle, horses, hogs, poultry, rice, pecans, fruit, vegetables, cotton, and corn. It is increasingly suburban and industrial.
