Fort Leonard Wood

US army post, in Pulaski County, south-central Missouri; population (1990) 15,900. It is located 112 km/70 mi northeast of Springfield, in the Ozark foothills. Established in 1940, it is a major training centre and the headquarters of the Army Engineer School.
