Foss, Joseph (Jacob) (1915-2003)

US marine aviator and governor. He led the marine Fighting Squadron 121 - ‘Joe's Flying Circus’ - on Guadalcanal Island during heavy fighting there in 1942, shooting down 26 Japanese aircraft. He was governor of South Dakota (1955-59).

He was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
